Welcome to my YouTube spotlight series. As an avid follower of about 50 channels, I’m going to praise some of my favorite content creators. This includes people who have subscriber totals ranging from the tens of thousands to millions. I like to follow channels that cover sports, horror, mystery, debate, wrestling, otters, and charismatic content creators who have a cheerful demeanor.

Rusty Buckets is a basketball fan who creates documentaries and hot takes on the National Basketball Association (NBA). He gives opinions on players, teams, and occasionally offers trade suggestions. Although he was a Kobe Bryant fan at age eight he didn’t start watching the NBA until he was about age 12.
Why You Should Subscribe To Rusty Buckets
The NBA hasn’t been a big passion of mine in about a decade. During the regular season I’ll follow the standings and some of the top stories. I start getting more into the league when the playoffs begin. It competes with Major League Baseball (MLB) as my second favorite professional sports league behind the National Football League (NFL).
I’m starting to follow NBA more now that there’s a new generation of talent with Ja Morant, Luka Dončić, Donovan Mitchell and Giannis Antetokounmpo. I loved the Michael Jordan era while I enjoyed the Kobe Bryant and early LeBron James era. There’s just something that turns me off on many of the Generation Y players. I guess my detachment is due to a mix of politics, the media fetishes for a few players, load management, super teams, and pride.
It’s refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t always force LeBron into the discussion. I can’t tell you how much I hate the mainstream NBA coverage where they focus more on LeBron dancing at Maldives than the ongoing playoff games. No disrespect to LeBron but I’m tired of hearing pundits talk about his politics, vacations, tweets, and everything that doesn’t involve him playing basketball.
I enjoy the presentation of this channel because he’s so matter of fact. He spits out the facts and opinions without getting too showy. Most of the videos are a respectable 15 to 20 minutes long. I’m not spending all day waiting for him to get to the point.
Whether Rusty Buckets is right or wrong I like hearing the guy talk about basketball. I’d expect to watch more of his videos as my passion grows again.
What I’d Like To See From Rusty Buckets
The more deep dives the better. Some of his hot takes don’t age well but his deep dive documentaries are fantastic.

Who Is The GOAT? | An Original Documentary FULL (3.4M Views, Published April 13, 2019)
I’ve never watched this video. I’ve heard so much empty filler from mainstream “experts” talking about the greatest of all time that I just don’t care about it at all. Comparing players from different generations is pointless because the rules change so much.
I’ll take Jordan though.
It has about three times the amount of views of any other video on his channel. Maybe one day I’ll find about three hours to listen to it.
My Favorite Videos
The Two Faces Of Gregg Popovich
The best part of this channel is the deep dives documentaries. One of the best examples of this is when Rusty Buckets takes a look into how the San Antonio Spurs have fared with and without Tim Duncan. Rusty states that this video has a lot of slander for Gregg Popovich but he still thinks of him as the best coach of all time. The main point that Rusty makes here is that Popovich was lucky to have Duncan, not the other way around.
The Day The NBA Stood Still
Kobe was going to give everything he had and then he was going to find some more because, shit, there’s probably something more to give in there somewhere. And that’s why so many people grew attached to Kobe. They saw a man they knew who was determined to be great and they watched him be great.
Rusty Buckets, The Day The NBA Stood Still, 48:03
This is another documentary that Rusty Buckets promotes at the end of his videos. He talks about Kobe Bryant from his high school days to what he did after his career to how everyone reacted after his passing. Rusty talks about what his childhood hero meant to him and why he was a Kobe fan four years before he started watching basketball regularly.
The Suns Are A Joke…
This isn’t one of his three best videos but I’m putting it here because it took place less than a week after posting this blog. I still can’t believe that the Phoenix Suns played that poorly in a Game 7.
