Welcome to my YouTube spotlight series. As an avid follower of about 50 channels, I’m going to praise some of my favorite content creators. This includes people who have subscriber totals ranging from the tens of thousands to millions. I like to follow channels that cover sports, horror, mystery, debate, wrestling, otters, and charismatic content creators who have a cheerful demeanor.

Who Is Mr. Nightmare?

Tyler Benjamin Ventura (born: May 2, 1992 [age 30]), better known online as Mr. Nightmare, is an American YouTuber who makes horror-centered videos in a read-aloud format, and with subtitles. Fan favorite series include True Real-Life Scary Stories and many others stories.

Wikitubia, Mr. Nightmare, June 4, 2022

Mr. Nightmare is a YouTuber who has an uncanny talent for telling stories about horror and personal anecdotes. He speaks over haunting music and chilling sound effects. The videos have jump scares when a surprising event happens. He offers a large variety of content that appeals to thousands of horror enthusiasts.

This is the guy who you want telling stories at your campfire parties.

Why You Should Subscribe To Mr. Nightmare

Let’s start with the obvious: it only made sense to insert Mr. Nightmare at No. 13. While there are many other channels who copy his style and content, he’s still the best at giving stories the spooky flair that make them that much creepier.

God only knows how many hours that I’ve binged on horror content from Mr. Nightmare and early Chills / Top 15s. I consider both of them as the original gangsters (OG’s) of the YouTube horror era. I binged on Mr. Nightmare for his stories and Chills for his lists that displayed some of the strangest but most interesting video clips that I’ve ever seen.

There’s so much to enjoy about Mr. Nightmare. It’s no mistake that he has nearly six million subscribers. Most of his videos are a simple 10 to 15 minutes long. It’s easy to multitask while listening to his stories. If you’re just listening to the story, then you can feel as if you’re experiencing the story first hand. For best results, watch his videos in a dark room after midnight.

For a horror content creator, Mr. Nightmare is incredibly widespread. His material never gets old because he covers dozens of topics. His stories cover Craigslist, Tinder, e-mail, texting, voicemails, children drawings, videos with backstories, Ring, school lockdowns, paranormal, creepypastas, and more.

Mr. Nightmare vs MrBallen?

Mr. Nightmare is a storyteller who is “somewhat” similar to the man who was covered in Spotlight No. 11, MrBallen. The biggest difference between the two narrators is that Mr. Nightmare focuses on horror more than true crime. There’s an ongoing debate about which of these two are the best. Memelord_mike from Reddit had a great take on why he doesn’t compare them as if it’s LeBron James vs Michael Jordan:

True Stories?

The main complaints from his channel are from people who doubt the validity of the stories. Sometimes he’ll submit proof with pictures or video. I’ve never cared about that because I’m here for the stories and his narration skills. It’s probably better if most of the stories aren’t true. He covers a lot of dangerous situations that will make you question the moral of society.

Conclusion

I’ve done a few of these spotlights on crime and horror creators. Four of my first 13 shout outs have covered Nexpo, MrBallen, ReignBot, and Mr. Nightmare. Years of research have opened them up to horrors that hardly anyone knows about. With that information comes the consequences of learning about how much evil is hidden in the world. I’m talking about the type of stuff that they’ll never disclose on their videos because it’ll get them demonetized or banned.

I’ve come to appreciate horror creators not just for the quality of their content but what they put themselves through when researching material. I think back to Nexpo when he closed his subreddit because it was affecting his mental health:

After much deliberation, I’ve decided that it was time to put r/NightmareExpo to rest. It had a good run, but it’s no longer something I can actively keep up with while keeping my well-being in high spirits. From the bottom of my heart, thanks for the years of discussion everyone. It’s been a fun ride. I’ll be seeing you all around. -Ryan

Nexpo, Reddit.

Creating dark content means opening yourself up to a world that you never knew previously existed. Make sure to show your appreciation to these content creators because it’s a great blessing to learn from the stories of this community.

What I’d Like To See From Mr. Nightmare

The video content is excellent but it would help to have a playlist of the fan favorite series.

As for content ideas:

  • Scariest daycare / babysitter stories
  • Scariest sleep paralysis stories
  • Creepy stories about certain companies (e.g. Amazon, RGIS)
  • Scariest YouTube channels / stories
  • Scariest websites

3 Creepy True School Lockdown Stories (26.5M Views, Published June 14, 2016)

Mr. Nightmare starts the description of his video with, “This was probably one of the most requested videos ever.” This video has more than double the amount of views of anything else on the channel. He makes you feel as if you’re first hand experiencing what some students go through and most others fear will happen to them.

My Favorite Videos

3 Disturbing Children’s Drawings with Backstories

There’s a certain fascination about crime and horror that involves those whom we consider the most innocent of society. This video had nearly six million views in less than a year. He made a second video to this series that had three million views in less than two months. These are easily the most viral videos of the last 12 months. His school lockdown videos perform very well.

3 True Craigslist Horror Stories

This Craigslist video resonates with me because I used the website during college and shortly afterward. The pizza delivery stories are another series that open my eyes as to the dangers that people are up against when traveling to another person’s property.

5 Disturbing Voicemails with Backstories

One of the few things more creepy than hearing Mr. Nightmare’s voice is when he lets the voicemails take over. Muffled voices, distorted screaming, no caller ID, unknown people showing up at a house around 3AM, paranormal activity after the calls, and other mysteries that authorities could never solve.

How To Support Mr. Nightmare
