Welcome to my YouTube spotlight series. As an avid follower of about 50 channels, I’m going to praise some of my favorite content creators. This includes people who have subscriber totals ranging from the tens of thousands to millions. I like to follow channels that cover sports, horror, mystery, debate, wrestling, otters, and charismatic content creators who have a cheerful demeanor.

What Is KOTSUMET?

A YouTube channel featuring two Asian small-clawed pet otters. Kotaro was born November 10, 2017. Hana was born November 24, 2018.

Otters are legal pets in Japan. The owners give us a glimpse of how their pets handle home life. Sometimes they’ll take them out in the wilderness or other fancy areas. You get to see how they respond to other people and animals.

Having an otter as a pet is illegal in most countries. However, in Japan, otters can be traded, although it is limited to domestic breeds only. Currently, severe restrictions are in place for buying and selling otters in Japan. There is a severe penalty for selling and buying otters with unknown birth origins without permits. Kotaro and Hana were both born in Japan and have permits. It is so much work to have an otter as a pet.

Why You Should Subscribe To KOTSUMET

Otters are my favorite animal with penguins coming in a close second. Whether it’s a real life otter or a cartoon character like Marlene from the Penguins of Madagascar cartoon series, I’m in love with their cuteness, playful nature, and the way they respond to various environments and surroundings. They squeak like mice and snarl like cats.

These two otters are adorable. I’m not even talking about their appearance as much as how they behave. They’re so curious.

Let’s consider a few of their trademark mannerisms

  • Kotaro dips every other piece of cat food into the water bowl before he eats it.
  • Whenever there’s a hose, Kotaro is eager to play along and get sprayed. Hana starts snarling loudly and attacks it. Does she think it’s a snake?
  • Both of them have different table manners. Kotaro eats at a slow pace and savors every bite. Hana eats it as quickly as possible then steals Kotaro’s food.
  • Kotaro loves to steal cellphone cases and run away with them.

The pet owners do a good job at making the audience feel as though they’re at home with the otters as they grow up. It’s a very heartwarming experience.

What’s remarkable about KOTSUMET and other channels with pet otters is watching how each creature reacts to its surroundings. Much like humans, they have different fears, interests, tastes in food, and identities. Otters are much smarter than some people give them credit for.

My Favorite Videos

Otter Kotaro&Hana So Comfy

This is the No. 3 most popular video. Kotaro and Hana look at peace while their owner combs their fur. This is quite possibly the simplest video on the channel but it’s among the highest viewed.

Otter Skillfully Steals My Smartphone

Any video where Kotaro is doing one of his smartphone thefts is golden. There’s another video where he gets very loud when the owner tries to retrieve his stolen good from the little weasel.

What Happens When Otter Couples Meet? Ui’s First Appearance!

Collaborations are awesome because they let Kotaro and Hana meet other pet otters. This video gives us a glimpse at what happened when the couple met Aty and Ui. Aty and Ui have their own YouTube following with nearly 800K followers. It wasn’t always peaceful among the new friends…
